Yaqin Si (b. 1990) is a Chinese artist. She graduated from Musashino Art University in Tokyo and is now based in Berlin. Her practice is rooted in observation. She explores ineffable substances through unfamiliar surfaces, believing that enlightenment lies in our differences.
Especially fascinated by the inner world as a human being, she uses her artwork, such as installation, film, and performance as methods to manifest and actualise these internal landscapes, prompting viewers to engage with alien circumstances that disrupt conventional viewpoints. She seeks to evoke emotional and sensory responses, encouraging a fresh examination of the world that challenges established perceptions and reveals often-overlooked connections.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including Tokyo Midtown (JP), MUA (JP), Seoul Institute of Arts (KR), Shenzhen New Media Art Festival (CN), Reading University (UK), Porthmeor Studios (UK), Ausland (GER) and 48 Stunden Neukölln (GER), etc,.
In 2023, she initiated a cultural practice - 有处 u-chu. Under this label she organized the DaybreakConcert series in Berlin in collaboration with the sounding festival “Vital” from Chengdu, China. Focusing on bringing together artists from very different cultural backgrounds, through music and performances, to explore what can emerge from improvised collisions. The aim is to create unpredictable experiences for both the participating artists and the audience.
Yaqin Si has also been an integral part of with NI VU NI CONNU Productions since 2020.
